Welcome to our dog BMI and Body Condition Score calculator! Rather than just looking at the number on a scale, our advanced tool evaluates your dog’s specific height, body length, and weight to determine their physical structural density. This allows us to map their dimensions directly onto the official 1-to-9 veterinary Body Condition Score system, helping you discover if your pet is carrying too much fat or too little muscle tissue.
How to use this tool:
- Enter your dog’s weight in pounds into the first box.
- Enter your dog’s height in inches (measure straight from the floor to the top of their shoulders).
- Enter your dog’s length in inches (measure from the base of their neck to the base of their tail)
Veterinary BCS Legend Below the Calculator
- Scores 1 to 3 (Underweight Range): Ribs, lower spine, and pelvic bones are easily visible with no palpable fat. The dog is lacking healthy muscle mass. Consult a vet about increasing their daily calorie targets.
- Scores 4 to 5 (Ideal Weight Range): The perfect target structure. Ribs can be easily felt without excess fat covering. The waist is easily visible from above, and the abdomen tucks up neatly when viewed from the side.
- Scores 6 to 9 (Overweight Range): Ribs are difficult to feel under a thick layer of fat. The waistline is absent or bulging from above, and the abdomen lacks a visible tuck. Consider adjusting daily food portions and increasing low-impact activity.
